About Your Corsica Booking - While You're Abroad

Your Corsica Accommodation

Corsica Properties of Style & Atmosphere

We are delighted to have secured our selection of properties in Corsica. Accommodation in Corsica is expensive because the choice is limited and the island has escaped major development keeping it remarkably ‘unspoilt’. We believe all this is well worth paying for.

Our portfolio of personally selected properties offers different types of accommodation, reflecting the diversity found on this island and standards remain relatively simple. Most of our self-catering accommodation is privately owned, often the owner’s home, which he/she vacates for the summer season. The style, fittings and furnishings therefore not only vary, but also reflect local tastes, customs, weather, etc. We feel this enriches your holiday experience and kindly ask you to respect this environment and care for it, as if it were your own home.

We have tried to describe all our properties as accurately as possible the general style and layout of each property. Below we provide further details on accommodation standards and other useful information.

We want to help you book the right holiday and therefore recommend you discuss your requirements with us.

The menu at a Ferme Auberge, is usually a set menu and meals may be taken at large tables, which are shared by other diners.
Auberge An Inn, usually serving local food and offering a small number of guest rooms.
Bergerie A shepherd’s hut. Very common in Corsica, these are little stone built cottages where local shepherds would live and make fresh cheese, whilst tending to their flock.

Health & Safety in Corsica

Simpson Travel is committed to raising the standards of Health & Safety throughout all our programmes. Our customers’ safety and well being is of the highest importance to us. However, please note that since many of our properties are private homes (giving them unique character and individuality), it is not always possible to meet the same exacting standards as in the UK. We ask you to familiarise yourself with the property on arrival, particularly when travelling with children, and raise any concerns with your local representative.

Corsican Animals, Insects and Wildlife

As in all rural communities, indigenous animals are an essential part of the way of life. The braying of a donkey, crow of a cockerel or the barking of a dog is not a complaint that receives much sympathy from the locals!

Care should be taken to minimise the presence of insects and animals in your accommodation. Keep surfaces clean, dispose of refuse regularly, and ensure that food is not left uncovered.

Cats and dogs are often resident where an owner or manager lives on the property. They are normally docile and enjoy making friends. Their domain is generally restricted to the public areas of the property and gardens. If you are allergic to cats and/or dogs please ensure that you check the suitability of your chosen accommodation with us prior to confirming your booking.

Noise

Seasoned travellers accept that, though regrettable, traffic, farm work, animals and other sounds form part of everyday life. We hope to have indicated in our descriptions the possibility of some kinds of disturbance; however, what constitutes ‘noise’ to one person may not be a problem for another. It should be remembered that in the country, work begins early, and the movement of tractors is a common sight near many of our countryside properties. Please let us know if you have any special needs regarding this element of your holiday and we will be happy to advise you accordingly.

Swimming Pools in Corsica

Swimming pool details are given in the ‘Accommodation details’ of our main brochure and the pool dimensions are approximate only and unless specified otherwise, pools are freshwater and unheated. Please note that dates when pools are open are subject to the prevailing weather conditions at the time of opening and closing. We regret we cannot be held responsible if poor weather means that the pool is opened later, or is closed earlier in the season.

Upon arrival at your accommodation, we kindly ask you to acquaint yourselves with the pool’s safety and hygiene rules. For added safety, most swimming pools in Corsica will be equipped with a safety system in the form of either an alarm, barriers and gate, a pool cover or a pool shelter. Please note that even if your pool does have a safety system, it does not replace your vigilance and constant supervision and we kindly ask you to acquaint yourselves upon arrival with the instructions provided on how it should be used effectively.

Many swimming pool rules disallow toys, fins, and other objects as they can damage the liner and/or mechanism. Many swimming pools contain an automatic pool cleaner (hoover), which keeps the water and pool surfaces clean and hygienic for your enjoyment. This equipment must not be removed or hindered at any time. Its removal or obstruction will empty the pool and cause extremely costly damage, which will be charged to your security deposit.

Where the swimming pool is shared, large inflatable toys are usually not permitted. Please note that at Les Aulnes (p.27 main brochure) and Casa Oleanda (p.64 main brochure), no toys or objects other than small inflatable swimming aids are permitted in the pool.

Cots and Highchairs

Travel cots and high chairs can be supplied free of charge in all our self-catering accommodation and some hotels (we will inform you if there is a charge). In most cases, these will be fold-up portable cots and highchairs. Please note that with the exception of Les Aulnes (p.27, main brochure), linen is not supplied, so please bring your own. As availability is limited please be sure to request at the time of booking.

Satellite Television

Where we have indicated that satellite television is available, we cannot guarantee that stations broadcasting in English will always be available. Channels in English may be English speaking channels only and these are often CNN or BBC World. If this is an important factor to you, please check with us in the UK office prior to confirming your booking.

Telephones & Mobile Phones

We have indicated in the ‘Accommodation details’ of our main brochure the properties, which have a phone. These are usually for incoming and outgoing local calls only. For making international calls we recommend that you take your GSM phone with you to Corsica, where coverage is extremely good, with the exception of a few very rural locations.

Occupancy

Only guests named on your invoice are entitled to occupy the accommodation. Any people not appearing on the invoice will be charged locally.

Please note that where a group of cottages or apartments share the grounds and the pool, or if you are staying in a hotel, owners in Corsica do not permit people not mentioned on the invoice to use the facilities

Self-catering Accommodation in Corsica

Villa owners

Whilst the owners or staff of some properties may live on site and tend to the grounds, they are aware that you value your privacy, and will do their best not to intrude. We do ask you however, to allow them reasonable access to the property so that they can maintain the grounds and keep them in good order.

Arrival/departure time

With the exception of the properties listed below, you will be able to occupy your villa or apartment after 2pm and you must vacate it on the day of departure by 9am.

Les Aulnes 3pm check-in
Villa Roce e Mare and Villa Cala Rossa 3pm check-in
Casa Oleanda 4pm check-in
Casa Valentini & Casa Giudici 4pm check-in
Casa Castelli 5pm check-in

Changeover time in Corsica on Sundays is very short and cleaners are difficult to secure, so we do ask for your assistance in respecting these times.

If you are making your own travel arrangements please advise us of your time of arrival, so we can make all necessary arrangements.

Security and cleaning deposits

For self-catering properties, we require you to lodge a security deposit against any breakages, damage, losses, extra cleaning or outstanding accounts, which you may have incurred during your stay.

This must be done by Credit or Debit Card at the time of booking by providing authorisation for us to deduct (within 21 days of your return home) any advised charges from your card – up to the maximum amount of £1000 per booking. In the event that you do not have a Credit or Debit Card you will be required to send us a cheque.

The specific amount required for your chosen property will be advised to you at the time of booking. In the unlikely event that any damage to the property exceeds the maximum applicable amount, then you will be responsible for the full cost.

Most of our properties are the owners’ personal homes and repairs, replacements and extra cleaning in Corsica can be very expensive, so we do ask you to take care in order to avoid incurring extra costs.

Cleaning

Self-catering accommodation is cleaned for your arrival and at the end of your stay. Details of any extra cleaning provided is indicated under the ‘Accommodation details’ of our main brochure.

Any extra cleaning, which is additional to the arrival and departure cleaning, usually consists of a sweep, mop, bathroom and kitchen tidy up. The maids do not wash dishes or dispose of your rubbish. It is important that you do this on a daily basis to avoid attracting insects and pests.

Although the maids prepare the accommodation for each arrival, we kindly request that you leave it in a reasonably clean and tidy state on departure. Any extra cleaning costs will be charged to your security deposit.

Extra maid service

If you wish to receive additional cleaning during your stay, please let us know at time of booking so we can make necessary arrangements for you. As maids are very difficult to secure in Corsica, this service is subject to availability and can be confirmed, and paid for, locally, once you are in Corsica. Rates are around £8 – £12 per hour.

Laundry and linen

Bed, bath and kitchen linen is provided and laundered on a weekly basis, unless otherwise specified. For your convenience many of our properties have their own washing machine – especially useful when travelling with children.

Beach/pool towels

As an extra service to our guests we are pleased to also include Simpson Travel beach towels as part of the linen provided in our self-catering properties. These are also normally laundered weekly. We request that you kindly leave them in the villa at the end of your stay, as missing towels will be charged for.

Heating and air-conditioning

Heating is available in some of our properties during the low season weeks. This is for your convenience, free of charge. We have also indicated in the ‘Accommodation details’ of our main brochure the properties, which have air-conditioning, which is also free of charge.

Please help us protect the environment by minimising wasteful use of these resources. Electricity is expensive in Corsica and your co-operation with this will also help us keep costs down.

Villa equipment

All our self-catering properties are equipped with a good range of equipment for a summer holiday. We also provide kettles, irons (most properties), beach umbrellas, a fan and you will find that most of our villas with private pool also have a CD player, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.

Barbecues

We have specified in the ‘Accommodation details’ of our main brochure if a barbecue is available at your accommodation. We kindly ask for your co-operation in preventing fire when using it, as fires are very common in Corsica. Please note that often in Summer, due to the hot weather, use of your barbecue may not be allowed and/or strict rules for its use may apply. The local or national government reserve the right to introduce new rulings at any time, often with little prior notice – prohibiting the use of barbecues to reduce the risk of fires. Where a barbecue is not provided, it is usually because the surroundings are considered a fire risk or inappropriate for the use of barbecues.

Where dinner is also included this is usually a fixed menu, which may or may not have a choice of dishes on it. In some hotels, you may take your half-board meal at lunch-time. The menu is usually displayed at the beginning of the day and you should make the hotel aware as soon as possible if any dishes will not be suitable.

In certain hotels, you may chose items from the à la carte menu by paying a supplement locally.
