Against a backdrop of misty lavender mountains, Saint Florent basks at the neck of the Cap Corse peninsula looking out on its azure gulf. But a rugged beauty and colourful history set this giant's thumb of land apart from the rest of Corsica, and exploring the Désert des Agriates or an ancient tower built to keep pirates at bay, can be as much part of your holiday in Saint Florent and Cap Corse as enjoying water sports or a foray along the route des vins. More French in atmosphere than the harbours of the south, Saint Florent neverthelees retains much of its Genoese and Tuscan heritage, such as its 12th century cathedral and the outlying network of forts.
Wine routes and mountain villages of Cap Corse
All of our holidays in Saint Florent and Cap Corse include an air-conditioned hire car and, with the nearby vineyards of Nebbiu and Patrimonio producing excellent wines, excursions to the growers’ mansions are recommended. One of the Cap’s gems is Nonza: flower-decked and slate-roofed, the village seems to have blossomed from its craggy foundations; another is the artists’ haunt of Erbalunga, which clings to a jagged promontory. Our luxury villas include stone studios and cottages; our hand-picked apartments offer fabulous views; and one of our hotels is a nature lover's dream, right below the Restonica Gorge. All have been hand-picked to provide the best of coast and countryside.
