Ronda, Zahara de la Sierra or Olvera; the style of these towns was set centuries ago, when Andalucía was a Moorish state, hence their narrow streets, simple geometric shapes, tiles and wrought-iron trimmings. After the armies of Ferdinand and Isabella reconquered them for Catholic Spain, some were further fortified and given the de la Frontera tag, like Arcos and Jimena, which both have impressive castles.
The legendary and vivacious Seville is a rewarding day trip from here,
as is the stunning city of Córdoba and the majestic city
of Granada. Closer still are Arcos de la Frontera and Ronda, the
majestic hilltowns which stand sentinel like against the azure sky.
What these picturesque cities, towns and villages have in common
are historic churches, convivial bars, sunny squares and shady cobbled
streets, garnished with flowers.
Casa
de la Era, near El Gastror, Ronda is an attractive 3 bedroom
villa with private pool. Enjoying impressive views across a shimmering
lake to the medieval village of Zahara de la Sierra, this wonderful
country house has one of the most privileged positions in the whole
of Andalucía.
