Painting and Drawing Holidays in Greece

This Painting and Drawing holiday is designed so that both beginners and more advanced painters will benefit from the experience of outdoor painting in the beautiful and inspiring Cretan landscape. You can successfully combine watercolour with many other media, to create some exciting colour schemes and textures. Painting subjects will be chosen depending on weather conditions and group abilities. There is also a large, covered 3-sided studio with lovely views, available for our use in the grounds of the Arosmari Cottages.

You will be advised of the art materials you need to bring with you before you travel.
 

Programme covers:

Day one: this will be spent getting your bearings, visiting your surroundings, and absorbing the characteristics of the landscapes, nearby buildings and getting inspiration from the local people and culture. Group exercises and one-to-one tutorials will take place to discuss individual strengths and experience.

Day two: will be spent capturing the colours and texture of the landscape.

Day three: a demonstration will be given on alternative methods, such as the use of a sponge for large washes, dragging paints and defining details with pastels or charcoal.

Day four: free day to relax or an excursion can be arranged for those wishing to explore Crete further.

Day five: this will be spent experimenting with watercolours and pastels in the landscape.

Day six: a demonstration on the use of masking fluid, random washes with inks and watercolours, painting landscapes with buildings.

Day seven: will be spent viewing your work and any problem solving.

Mariella Wolff is an established lecturer who has taught painting and drawing for many years at various colleges, including the RACC, where she was lecturer in Art & Design for ten years. In addition, she has been responsible for leading a regular series of painting study tours to Italy. She also regularly exhibits her own work at galleries in the Richmond and Gloucestershire areas.
