28.01.2010January SurpriseWell I have to confess that I’m pleasantly surprised the way bookings are going this January. I think like most people we were battening down the hatches at Simpson and expecting a slow start, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. To date it’s been very lively with Greece and Corsica, in particular, extremely busy. I can’t quite work this one out, but speaking to friends and family the general consensus seems to be that with all the doom and gloom about, it’s a matter of “what the hell! We’re having a holiday this year.”
Furthermore, perhaps people are a bit wary after weather predictions in the UK over the last few months. Perhaps it’s better to guarantee some sun in the Mediterranean rather than a wet August at home? I remember Michael Fish’s relaxed complacency in October 1987 just before the hurricane – poor chap I don’t think he ever quite lived that one down.
Anyway, I am hoping that part of the increased activity on the holiday front is also down to our new website – blood sweat and tears went into it and by all accounts it’s been favourably received with lots of positive comments from clients saying how much easier it is to navigate.
So I suppose the message is that if you have a favourite haunt in mind, don’t leave it too late, especially if you have a particular date in mind when you have to travel.
