22.01.2010A theatrical experience not to be missed We are fairly regular theatregoers and the other night we saw something very special in London which I’d like to share with you. We finally saw ‘War Horse’ and it really is a unique experience. Having trod the boards professionally myself for 10 years (a long time ago) I am fairly critical (failed actors always are!) so it seemed unlikely this production could live up to its reviews but it exceeded our expectations and it rates as one of my top three visits to the theatre ever.
It is predominantly about horses and the role they played in the First World War. The unique part is that the horses on stage are life-size puppets. Now that’s not very exciting I hear you say but it is, because within a couple of minutes of seeing them on stage with their puppeteers you believe they are real. The puppeteers are extraordinarily talented and they seem to capture the very essence of these beautiful animals.
It’s very moving, visually stunning and a story about loyalty and love. If you are planning a weekend in London, or a night out, (depending where you live), it is not to be missed.
‘War Horse’ is a National Theatre production, now transferred to the New London Theatre and as word has got round, you might have to book well in advance.
