A Winter Jaunt
Every other year we take a winter holiday – come mid-January we find the need for sun drawing us to far off places.
This time round it’s the Caribbean. We are not into staying at luxury establishments; we tend to favour small and friendly hotels or cottages tucked away in the country or on the beach. The basic requirements stipulated by Mrs S are: it must be clean, quiet, and we both agree we are past sharing a loo with strangers! But apart from that and, of course, a comfortable mattress, we don’t mind how simple it is.
The key to everywhere we like to stay is its location: either ‘a room with a view’ or a place by the sea where at night the waves soothe us into blissful sleep.
St Vincent and the Grenadines are our choice this January and island hopping is the order of the day. There are quite a number of small islands that make up the Grenadines and we plan to visit as many as we can.
This is without doubt predominantly a holiday, but I have to confess that I may have one eye open for a possible Simpson Secret or that small and friendly boutique hotel that fits into our Simpson portfolio.
I have succeeded in persuading Mrs S to travel light (not easy!), so it’s shorts and t-shirts, plus a few essentials, the camera, backgammon and good supply of books (it’s the only time I get to read).
I will keep you posted and I may even be tempted to write a blog from one of our remote discoveries – that’s if I can find an internet cafe.
